This is the new snow today on my drive into work. We have 10 inches on top of Baldy, and it continues to snow. Hope to get a good foot out of this storm.

Opening Day is Thanksgiving... We give thanks to the powder gods, and we are ready for a great ski season.

Cold temps in the forecast, so bring your down coat and gloves... Skiing is going to be great for opening day... Stay tuned for details on what lifts and runs will be open. Also should have some shots from opening day...

Get out and ski; that's why we live here...

Steamboat Ski Resort 2010 Best Opening in Years!

Steamboat Snow, Activities and Weather Report by the ResortQuest Steamboat Vacation Rentals Team

The Steamboat Ski Resort will be opening November 24, 2010 with 5 lifts, 66 trails, 926 acres of top-to-bottom skiing equaling 3,000 vertical feet, and 74 inches of snow!!!

WOW! This opening day or Scholarship Day is going to mark the best early-season conditions in almost a decade said Chris Diamond, president and chief operating officer of the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation. Scholarship Day allows the mountain to open with specially priced $30 lift tickets and $20 lower-mountain lift tickets that benefit the Steamboat Winter Sports Club Scholarship Fund!

The resort anticipates opening 5 lifts-Christie Peak Express, Gondola, Storm Peak Express, Burgess Creek and 4 Points. This includes much of the resort's legendary tree-skiing areas, including the upper portions of Shadows and Closets, Flying Z, Twilight, Triangle 3 and more. Remember, trails and lifts are subject to change without notice as conditions change.

The early season storms have come in strong and left nearly 4 1/2 feet of powder in November so far — Steamboat will be opening with a 38-inch base at mid-mountain and 52-inch base at the summit! These are the largest base amounts ever seen on opening day!

So what are you waiting for — skiing will be epic this year, so book your ski vacation lodging now! The earlier you book, the more you save. And, if you buy now, we can still order you discounted lift tickets!

Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk are scheduled to open December 11th, 2010. And, Aspen Highlands Ski Patrol has a very unique way of recruiting help to open the Highlands Bowl. The bowl is an epic 45-minute hike to the Summit at 12,392 feet where the best steeps and incredibly deep powder is found! The ski patrol gives out the call to the Local "Powder Posse" who come hungry for powder. By helping ski patrol prepare the Bowl by packing down the powder and making sure the snow is stable, they earn their free pass to ski the powder before the season opens! What criteria is needed to be on the Powder Posse — the urgent need for powder that allows you to hike the bowl multiple times in a day and ski down, plus an avalanche beacon.

Watch the video from this local Powder Posse member as he shows off the powder conditions on the bowl!

Book your Inn at Aspen lodging now so you can ski all of Aspen's powder! If you book by December 1 you can get your 3rd, 4th or 5th night FREE!
