A South Carolina Level 1 State Championship event and a Southern section 200 point tournament, the Alan Fleming Tournament is open to all active U.S. Tennis Association (USTA®) members. Recently voted "South Carolina Adult Tournament of the Year," the tournament offers 44 events, including singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Age categories for both men and women range from 40 to 80 years old with players having the option to be placed into the next lower age division.

A per-player entry fee of $97.25 covers participation in one or two events, prizes, entertainment and hospitality. Evening social events, including a Players’ Cocktail Party and a Buffet Dinner, are complimentary for all players, but players must register by noon tomorrow, Sept. 30. Guests of participants must pay to attend the social events.

“Our portfolio of professionally managed vacation rentals on Seabrook Island includes a number of villas within walking distance of the Racquet Club and biking distance to most anything else on the island,” said Ian Harris, Charleston director of sales and marketing, ResortQuest by Wyndham Vacation Rentals. “When guests come for ‘The Fleming,’ I recommend they build in an extra day or two for golfing, exploring Charleston and riding horseback on the beach.”

Seabrook Island is a private 2,200-acre resort community located less than a half-hour drive from historic Charleston. The Alan Fleming Tournament was recently voted "South Carolina Adult Tournament of the Year," and nearby Charleston was named "Best Tennis Town in America" for 2010 by the USTA. The resort's recently completed $31 million renovation project ensures that tennis at Seabrook is second to none.

The Alan Fleming Tournament was originally established in 1981 as the Seabrook Island Senior Tennis Tournament. The competition was renamed in honor of its founder, Alan Fleming, after his death in 1997. For the past 10 years, the tournament has raised money for the non-profit Hospice of Charleston Foundation. Hospice of Charleston is dedicated to providing quality end-of-life care for patients and families throughout Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties, enabling those who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness to live with dignity.
