400 Plus Inches of Snow — Steamboat Powder Morning

Steamboat Snow, Activities and Weather Report by the ResortQuest Steamboat Vacation Rentals Team —

The Steamboat Ski Resort just announced that Steamboat has officially received over 400 inches of snow snow snow! And as soon as we announced that total, Mother Nature decided 400 inches was not enough and gave Steamboat another 9 inches just to top it off!

I spent yesterday morning in all that brand-new snow, and it was, to put it mildly, soo soo soo much fun! Some of my favorite days in a ski season can occur the last few days the ski resort is open — this morning was one of them. The snow was soft, the snowflakes were perfect, and it was perfect with so many runs of perfect untouched snow! This morning was foggy, but the sun has already burned through any left-over storm clouds, and the Steamboat skiers and riders are playing in fresh pow with gorgeous sunshine!

There is still plenty of time to come play in Steamboat's white Spring powder conditions! Springalicious is tasty with discounted lodging, discounted lift ticketsyou get 4 days for $100 bucks!, and there is plenty of free music, closing weekend events, sunshine and beers! Get to Steamboat for Springalicious spring!

Spring Fever — It's that restless feeling you get around March and April when the sun is shining brighter longer and the days are getting warmer. With the melting snow comes a need for change, and anything fun is fair game. It involves long days of spring skiing, après beers on your favorite patio, basking in the sun and a secret longing for your love — summer — to arrive (you don't want to make winter jealous).

But, the actual term Spring Fever is recognized by science as a biological change that occurs in humans as the seasons switch from winter to spring. Wikipedia defines Spring Fever as: "A term applied to several sets of physical and psychological symptoms associated with the arrival of Spring. It refers to an increase in energy and vitality, often particularly strong in those experiencing lows during the winter months." It's like we are coming out of our winter hibernation, and we're ready to play!

So, Breckenridge has fully embraced this Spring Fever condition, and to help relieve all those antsy, fun-seeking spring chicks, they have made April a month of pure Spring Fever Fun!!! Save up to 40% on Spring Fever lodging. Come on get to Breckenridge — don't deny the urge to break free from winter and have some spring fun!

From live music from major headline bands like the Flobots, The Wailers, Devotchka and more... to incredible restaurant deals, après deals and extended ski hours... to shopping deals... to an entire beer festival... the whole town of Breckenridge is setting up the fun for all of April!

Destin Cobia Tournament

Originally published Monday, March 7, 2011 —

With a name like "The World's Luckiest Fishing Village," Destin is a town that takes their fishing very seriously. That's why the 15th Annual Harborwalk Marina Destin Cobia Tournament is one of the highest anticipated events of the year. Weigh-ins will take place at the Harborwalk Marina (66 Harbor Blvd, Destin, FL 32541). Anglers come from all across Northwest Florida (along with some visitors, too) to compete for cash and prizes. The tournament begins in March and ends on May 6th with an Awards Ceremony at Harry T's (46 Harbor Blvd., Destin, FL 32541).

There are many categories to the tournament, including 30 foot and under, ladies, senior, junior, pee wee, and more! Anglers look forward to the excellent payout, in which last year over $35,000 in cash and prizes were awarded. All proceeds benefit the Miss Destin Scholarship Fund, helping local girls further their educational goals.

Even though the tournament has already begun, as of today (3/7/11), no one has caught the first Cobia! Join us this spring in one of many Destin and Ft. Walton Beach vacation rentals, and maybe you can take home the prize!

St. Patrick's Day Celebrations in Breckenridge — Kiss Me, I'm Irish!

ResortQuest Breckenridge Blog,
Originally published Friday, November 19, 2011 —

Tabhair pog dom taim Eireannach
Blog written by Breck local Karin Bearnarth who has a special place in her heart for all those Irish — even just a wee bit!

Breckenridge celebrates St. Patrick's Day just a wee bit this March 17, 2011! Whether you are born and raised in Ireland or have a touch of Irish in you, celebrating St. Patrick's Day in the high country will have you saying "Tabhair pog dom taim Eireannach" (Kiss me, I'm Irish!) before the end of the evening!

Start your day off at Burke and Riley's, which will open at 7am with a giant Irish buffet breakfast. Mark Burke, one of the owners, says he will be serving up a traditional Irish breakfast, the most important meal of your day! Later in the day, enjoy the sounds of the old country with bagpipers from Denver's Emerald Society. Burke and Riley's also will have live Irish music, a DJ and Celtic dancers throughout the afternoon and evening. A small cover charge will get your first beor ghlas (green beer) and a collector's Burke and Riley's t-shirt. Of course, there will be Guinness on tap as well.

Head over to Fatty's Pizzeria, a local's tradition for St Patrick's Day lunch. The corned beef simply falls apart, because they braise it and then slow cook it for eight hours. It is served with cabbage and other vegetables that have been slow cooked as well. They open at 11 and serve at least 100 pounds of corned beef that afternoon! Yum!

Beor Ghlas
Napper Tandy's owner Anthony Bulfin — born and raised in County Tipperary, Ireland, and rumored to be a direct descendant of St. Patrick — hosts another gigantic celebration beginning with a true Irish buffet with corned beef and cabbage with soda crackers, plus Guinness on tap. The buffet opens at 11am and stays open until 4pm. Live Celtic music will run from noon to close. The decks at Napper Tandy's will be filled with revelry and have nice views of the mountains. At 5pm, be dazzled by Breckenridge's own Celtic Steps dancers — ages 5-15 — that have been professionally trained by members of the cast of Lord of the Dance and will perform traditional Irish dances until 6pm. Impress Anthony by saying "Pionta Guinness le do thoil," which means, "A pint of Guinness, please!"

New this year will be an upscale St Patrick's Day party at Blue River Bistro from 4-7pm. Their new chef will prepare traditional Irish fare including corned beef and cabbage, but with an avant-garde twist. Owner Jay Beckerman says he is introducing a new St Patrick's Day martini to go along with the fabulous appetizers. Larry Copeland will be performing his outstanding jazz but promises it will have an Irish twist, as he and his crew have been working on U2 covers! Getting green at the Blue will certainly have you saying "Eirinn go Brach" (Ireland forever) for the rest of the night!

Get to Breckenridge to celebrate St. Patty's Day or anytime this spring and save up to 40% on lodging through March — or experience Spring Fever in a different light all April! Save up to 40% off Spring Fever Lodging and cure that need for spring skiing, après and all those awesome events!

We look forward to seeing you this St Patrick's Day! Slainte!

With only about a month left in the 2010/2011 Ski Season, Mother Nature has given Steamboat 350 inches of snow so far this year, and we're telling her to keep it coming! Read more about our 350-inch milestone!

Tony U. is the front desk manager at our Torian Plum property, and he made it out for some incredible ski runs yesterday (3/8/2011) when we received almost a foot of powder by the end of the day. Here are his insider tips...
"Yesterday, we woke up with 2 inches of fresh powder that had turned into nearly a foot by the day's end, and then the sun came out! So, the 3 o'clock shift change came around, and I grabbed the Helmet Camera from its shelf and hustled up for a couple of late-day ski runs on the Steamboat Ski Area. Steamboat is now open with their Spring Hours (read more), which means that upper mountain lifts run later, some as late as 4:15, and Christie Peak Express runs 'til 4:30.

Almost 30 feet of snow has blanketed Steamboat and the Steamboat Ski Resort this 2010/2011 winter season, and believe us — this winter really has been epic! With only a month or so left in this ski season, we are dying to see how much more snow we can get! Ranchers in Steamboat like to call this type of deep-snow winter a "four-wire" winter... when so much snow has fallen it stacks up over the 4th row of wires on their fences! That is deep!

According to the Steamboat Ski Resort, "Since October 23rd, snow has fallen 86 out of 137 days with 38 of those days recording four or more inches. In March alone, snow has fallen 5 of 8 days with 2 days recording four or more inches."

So, what do we do with all this snow? We have epic spring ski conditions that will feel much like mid-winter conditions. You'll be hard pressed to find any rocks or grass sticking out from the slopes this year! This year's spring conditions and celebrations will be Springalicious Enjoy tons of outdoor music, sunshine, après drinks, and end-of-season unique events! But don't take our word for it — come discover the true epic conditions on your own. This spring we are offering serious lodging deals and ski pass deals that will ensure everyone gets some awesome ski turns!
